For £20c he broke £1k radio set. For OEM repair cost almost £7k ! Worth £2 ride for Off Roading.

    2. Kirk Lamplugh

Tom looks massive against Alex. He must be 5' 10".

    3. MadWolf141618 Life Saver

please tell me he doesn't drive this piece of crap car

    4. joshua varghese

      Jesus is love

    5. C Mendoza

Sad to see the England turning into the next island of misfit old cars. Cuba had held the position long enough. Brexit sure did a number on you boys ! Lmao

    6. Edward Davies

Not as good as the 850

    7. Jimmy Jones

Back in 2000, I bought myself 96, T5 R, and it was the worst car I'd ever had .... In terms of the build quality and the finish, I lost interest with it very quickly, and after 6 months traded it in for a Bimmer E36, M3 which turned out to be the best cat I ever bought ....

    8. Retro Classic

Randomly I used to work at this garage , unlike other places I’ve worked this garage actually does things properly and I can’t recommend them enough . And Tom if you see this well done glad to see your doing alright 👍🏻.

    9. iloveyourmomalot1one

Watching this makes me glad I live in the U.S. I'm in a state that doesn't require inspections. I'd just drive that until the engine quit. But also. Could save yourself 2k by not dealing with the cosmetic stuff. Like 1-2k by buying aftermarket equipment and another 2k for doing it yourself. Literally all of that stuff is doable if you are mechanically inclined. Whole car would cost about 2-2500. Totally worth it.

    10. grim reaper

About a £100 in scrap value

    11. MetalTrabant

So you ruined a perfectly good 700 pound CD player? And you're gonna trash this mostly okay car that just needs some TLC and cheap aftermarket parts instead of OEM? Where is the Car Throttle that saved a high-miler Skoda? I liked that one better...

    12. Iggy's Friend

What is really scary is that a 54 plate Volvo has a fault in every module. I have a 52 plate Hyundai with zero fault codes and it's just passed it's MOT a couple of months ago. Not bad for a 19 year old car.

    13. Dave Dave

I think that if it had been maintained over its life it would have been no more than £2000 but to now buy all volvo spares is just stupid. Scrap stuff from the breakers and poly bushes would be the obvious start point. Playing silly games with the software is the only non diy job. Thing is most cars without the computer crap are a scrap job anyway. Shame really.

    14. Phil Robinson

Where the f##k does that mechanic get his parts from!! do they come in gold plated boxes or something?

    15. Uzhac Uzhacny

imo aftermarket parts and about 1400 pounds! contorl arms about 100pounds and 6 bolts u can do it yourself. I dont bother to mention the rest...

    16. phantommaggotxxx

Polishing headlights works GREAT if you get a good kit and take your time... SMH

    17. Mistrzu świata i okolic

Those prices are from the moon... 800 pounds for lamps ?! Are you kidding me ?! 100 pounds for brake hose ?

    18. Karel Ongena

I had a V70 II D5. It really was a bad car, not Volvo worthy. Numerous electrical problems: engine stalls without reason (very dangerous), dashboard fails several times, automatic transmission problems. The rubber parts of the front suspension had to be changed every 20.000 km. Glad I sold it.

    19. Nelson Pinto

I wasted 1h totaling all these parts and you aren't fixing it... dum ass... 😆

    20. François Caron

"Sylvania headlight restoration kit" will fix those headlights very nicely.

    21. Vogelnick

      Our v70 d5 has 530.000km =-330k miles. Unkillable

    22. G D W Law

I had the same car and then a more recent D5 with Geartronic. Changing the cam belt was always a very expensive job with water pump coming out at the same time. The GPS failed and injectors needed a change and offloaded the car at 395.000 kms. The biggest disappointment was the Volvo dealer.

    23. Pete Parker

      I'd like your instrument cluster!

    24. robert topliss

I've learn some thing new about Volvo's today. Don't touch one :-)

    25. Aivars Veisbergs

You can buy antiroll-bar bushing no problem.

    26. ddddarius02

never go to this service for repair.

    27. Aran

Just goes to show what a rip off some garages are. 900 quid for the steering rack then 500 quid to fit it. Jog on. Source the part yourself and learn how to fit it yourself. You'll learn about your car and save a bunch of money. You'll make mistakes but you don't get ripped off.

    28. Allan Smith

Try the scrappy for parts and that car will back on the road better still buy another car for swapping parts.

    29. Delta049

This is kind of why I don't go to dealers and order stuff myself. Few months back, my car was broken into. Broken the doorhandle on my 2010 Fiat Punto Evo, went to the dealer because of the remote control key stuff. They'd charge me €980 (£750), did it myself for under €150 (£120), only had to get someone else to do the remote control key programming, he only charged me €35 £20 whereas the Fiat dealer would charge me €450 £350 for only that!!!

    30. Rick Astley

Fuck.. I got quoted £320 for a timing chain and tensioners (labour included) and thought I was going to die but I feel MUCH better now.

    31. AdamFM

How does someone do this much damage to a fucking volvo!! You know the car where the engines can last way over 3/400k miles and a crash would probably cause more Damage to the other vehicle

    32. C C

I know you need shock value for views, but it's so blatantly fake how much the prices are

    33. Fuzzwuzzle

"If anyone wants any parts from this" Bro the only thing that works is the number plate XD

    34. gerza71

Maybe too late, go for a second opinion.

    35. Harrison Clarke

Half the stuff didn't need to get fixed...

    36. Simon Ellison

Dealer will charge you £1300 for pads and discs on a 2017 VW golf. You can purchase upgraded discs and pads for a golf R for £300. Equivalent Dealer charges £500 an hour labour for something you could do yourself in a couple hours. Then you find out the car only needed pads and the discs are all ok. Local garage will charge £120. £420 versus £1300. UK dealer rip off.

    37. Jacob Wood

Is the radio still available?!?! I'll pay shipping!! In dire need, been without music for 2 years in my xc70 now!

    38. Dominique G.

      7:57: Yeah, I usually love them with a strap-on. :D Slightly worried now, considering I drive an S80 from '99. :( xD

    39. seesikopter

My Volvo v70ii has glass headlights, no cloudy plastic

    40. brian lockyer

i had a 164 back in the day it was neither reliable or cheap to repair then. As was the later 240.

    41. william kennedy

Thats an eye watering price list, my Merc SL wiper motor cost £78 new from mercedes, this lots having a laugh , Buy second hand parts and do the job yourself !

    42. Tony Stanley

You expect that sort of pricing from a dealer, not an independent, but he did require 'OEM' parts. This was more of a stunt because he was going to race it anyway. Volvo dealers are always disappointing, to be avoided if atall possible.

    43. Sean Connelly

What id do with this car is cut the cat out and sell the car and make 150x your money

    44. Iuhshwth

Im sure you could fix all that 10 times cheaper or so.

    45. Matt Alaric

I've refurbed foggier headlights than that with a bit of wet and dry sandpaper and some turtle wax lens cleaner and sealant, total cost under £10. No way anyone with a brain is paying £873 for that.

    46. Homer bob

Make a series about fixing the needed stuff so it can be used as a daily. Using second hand parts and non OEM parts

    47. slybunda

      underbody looks very good.

    48. Gerard Montgomery

Anybody else proud of Ethan for knowing what a D5 was?

    49. Un- Known

Do you have any bits off a Mercedes a class 2008 please...

    50. DavidT

Ah bangernomics. We bought our 850 estate in 1998. It has now done over 300,000 miles, I'll throw any amount of money at it because the value off the car is the sum of more than just the sale price. The reality is that doing most of the work myself, I mentally budget £500 per year in maintenance and it's usually a tiny fraction of that. It still does everything today that it used to and every system has always been maintained and still works. There are other cars available on the drive but I still enjoy the 850 as an armchair relaxed drive. It has its share of bodywork marks, mostly from the children but it's a family member so despite two random people recently knocking on the door asking to buy it, it's going nowhere!

    51. John Clayton

Those prices are a joke, scrapyards and ebay would make it much less.

    52. Night

On the other side.. its a Volvo and OEM parts are expensive.. if you want to drive cheap... buy a Fiat Panda, and dont annoy the other Volvo drivers with: is this normal?, is a dealer always that expensive?, is this the correct price for?, does anybody knows cheap... the answer is NO.. if you cannot afford it, dont drive it.

    53. Night

cracked lamp is not for sale anymore

    54. Night

      Intercooler is 150

    55. Night

      Radio max 200

      1. Night

        software is not nes...

    56. Night

873... 2 new headlamps. you can just polish them for 30........

    57. Lee Taylor

      Top Gear did it

    58. Hampus Baaz

Give you back a pound for the central locking motors and door handles ;)

    59. Ibraheem Raja

      Not too bad

    60. Sebastian Storholm

My mates chipped D5 did 600000 km before it yeeted the turbo, so I’d say it’s barely broken in that one!

    61. Kzn Nzn

would like to get a car for 1 quid also, run hard until it dies then sell to scrapyard

    62. Arnold Tóth Isaszegi

Mechanic: the headlights needs restoration Carthrottle: that is 1000 bucks Everyone else: 10 bucks restoration kit and 20 minutes

      1. Arnold Tóth Isaszegi

Just between us it is fixable maximum 500

      2. Arnold Tóth Isaszegi

Btw the guy sees grease and he said the intercooler is off. Man u have to stupid enough to not understand that the intercooler holds air and not fluid

      3. Arnold Tóth Isaszegi

2 headlights brand new cost about 100 instead of 873vehat is in the video but ok

    63. Karvast

You can polish headlights and it does come out good this guy just want to sell you new headlights. Buy scrap yard parts i bet that wouldn't that expensive to fix and on a shitbox like that it doesn't need to be new parts 1£ for a car that is running is a steal

    64. raymond adams

good advert on why not to buy a volvo

    65. Paulie Blog

      £850 for two headlights?

    66. Pasi Timonen

or just offroad and get new better one than boring Volvo. Good cars, but a bit boring.

    67. aaradorn

Looks like she needs a new rack and a good strap-on. She's a leaker and has some miles on her but it's workable. It's.... not too bad

    68. Stephane Simard

you get absolutely hosed in the UK, here in Canada parts are way cheaper and inspections are far les stringent.

    69. Daniel Yyy408

I mean, it was a quid

    70. Luis Llorens

"Are they better with a strap on?" Meghan Markle has entered the chat.

    71. D. Daniels1990

      Banger racing boys ! 😍

    72. Julian Hills

washing the windscreen with a laptop , total control by the master! conclusion is, it pays to look after it and love it this D5 has been hated .

    73. Vladislav Berdnikov

As a former Volvo owner of a car from this era, that "nothing is cheap" brought my wallet's PTSD back.

    74. Makke

I don't understand why people are bitching about the estimate. OEM new parts of course it's expensive.

    75. Makke

I feel like uneconomical to repair is like an Alex Kersten motto

    76. Anthony Fernwood

If this is what a Volvo specialist charges i can’t imagine what a Volvo dealer would charge,

    77. Ben Evans

Just come cross your channel and it’s brilliant and hope you are staying safe and well

    78. Mark Williamson

These chumps will never be top gear material

    79. Frits

So go to a local independent. I didn’t spend this on my 20y old v70 in the 11 years I own it.. And I use original parts were needed, oem or used parts where possible.

    80. pistolpeds

Great car. Just run in. New mount, fix intercooler and a good water blast and she'll be like new !

    81. Reinier Mayer

If you buy a £1 car, shouldn’t the right approach be, that you know what’s wrong and right with it before the purchase? It’s either a steal and an easy fix, or it’s a donor for parts that are to be used for an identical car you fix on the cheap with it, or you don’t buy it. What we saw here, is the purchase of someone else’s misery, resulting in the surprising discoveries that A) broken cars are no fun and B) not using your brain to think about what you’re doing may result in stupid outcomes and C) the target audience for this show seems to be brainless people in need of transport, but who are fed up with disappointing themselves due to their stupidity, but unable to change their actions without seeing one of their peers laying it out on video, so they can better themselves and take a first step towards being less of a moron.

    82. Abdulai Abdurahmani

Scrap that ruin. not worth it

    83. Steve Roche

Biggest lesson here is never go near this garage 1k for lights lol I had mine machines up for 30£ looked like new any competent person could turn that car round for a fraction of that cost on the side of the road you have not done garages/ mechanics any favours with this video it's actually frightening to see how much of a replace not repair world we live in

    84. predatorfe

But do the new headlights come with bulbs included? :D

    85. Peppermint

Bringing in to Volvo an old clunker with weird electrical problems is like petting a big white while eating salami

    86. Geoffrey Carter

even their racks are Volvo Blue

    87. alana mcarroll

Its motd until september 2021 . This clearly is overrated overpriced bullshit because the Mot history says it all lol

    88. piwex69

Here in CEE, this car would have been fixed for 1/5th of that quote, thus you would never find it sold for one pound.

    89. Alan Partridge

Funny on mine I went on eBay and went to local scrappies and sorted a lot of issues for no more than a couple of hundred quid. Not worth paying dealers/specialists prices for a 16 year old, high mileage estate car.

    90. Jan Henrik Larsen

Get most parts from a scrapper for 1/10 of the price

    91. Jos Durkstra

I wonder if that car ever had regular maintenance?

    92. Danile Cooley

My vectra b sri dti would put that to shame its done 300.000 miles no issues with mechanical or bodywork

    93. alida flus

"if you've got a Volvo old or new come here" Ite lemme remortgage my house

    94. contemporarymonk

Link rods 250 pound? Literally did mine on the same car in the drive, 5 bolts for the wheel and 2 bolts of the rod. Why buy OEM parts? A rebuilt rack costs 300 or so. Perfect example why you should not take it to the dealer. Most of that work can be done in the driveway.

    95. Fj Fj

Exchange of 20 cents is fiver? What tf is he talking about? GBP has been rising against USD for almost a year.

      1. alida flus

Neat to see the vintage steel!

    96. Koysur Rahman

      Ripp off mechanic

    97. Koysur Rahman

      Volvo drive for life

    98. Ben Taylor

Waste of time this video. Ridiculous prices, no cheaper than main dealer. Best to use good quality aftermarket parts on this car... Probably do the whole lot under 1000. Headlights can be cleaned up with the proper products not toothpaste... And why would you fit a brand new head unit?? Just fit an aftermarket one which would have Bluetooth etc...

    99. Brian Partington

Dealers are thieves, Audi fuel pump £240 = VW Passat fuel pump £176 = Bosch fuel pump £118, did the job myself in 30 minutes, dealer wanted the car for 2 days.

    100. Neil Ashman

You can repair the rear anti roll bar with new bushes, it's not the easiest job but entirely possible. On my 2002 D5 the intercooler is the same part number as a petrol engined model and available used for about£40.The anti-skid message on my car was caused by cracked front abs rings and fixed cheaply. This car could be sorted for a fraction of the quote in the video.
